Top Five Things to Ask a Contractor


We encourage all homeowners to ensure that they research all possible information when selecting a contractor. Your home is important to you and your family and making an informed choice at the beginning ensures a successful project.


  1. Can you present me with your WSIB and Insurance?

    When asking a contractor for documentation, you should make sure that you actually see the documentation in hand. If a company’s employee were to injure themselves on the job and has no insurance, you as a homeowner are liable.

  2. How long have you been in business?

    Make sure that you do research when finding a roofer to work on your home. Be safe and don’t make assumptions. Use the internet to browse websites and references from past projects. You can still consider a new company as long as they meet the criteria you are looking for.

  3. Do you have references or referrals?

    References and referrals can be a way to determine a roofer’s credibility. This may give you a better understanding of what the roofing experience would be like. You may request a reference or referral from a job where they have had a complaint to see how they handle complaints and problems.

  4. What kind of warranties does contractor provide for product installed? Can you explain them to me. Do they provide installation warranty?

    It is important that you and your contractor know which warranties are available to you and if installation is covered within the warranty itself.

  5. Does the contractor handle all projects themselves or do they sub-contract at all?
